This handsome chap is Tomboi. 19 years ago, we were called to rescue this orphaned elephant from Northern Kenya. At the time, he was just a bitty baby and needed milk and protection, so we hand-raised him at our Nursery and later, at our Ithumba Reintegration Unit. Today, he is a towering bull and has lived back in the wild for the past 11 years. As with all the orphans, our caregivers are attuned to small physical differences and characteristics – like a nick in the ear or a rounded forehead -
