Although this is just a short clip from an encore, it captures so many things I deeply love. Exploring different sounds on the instrument. Playing acoustically and getting inspired by the sound of the room. Interplay and teasing with the audience. Being fully in the moment. And honoring a bit of jazz tradition along the way. I’m really looking forward to the upcoming shows with the Brass Band in India, as well as the trio concerts in March in Berlin and Hamburg. If you have a chance to see us li

Here’s some rehearsal footage from one of my favorite projects ever—a duo with the legend and monster musician that is @garyhusband1 I have to admit, it was a little intimidating to be in the room with someone I respect so much as a musician, composer, improviser, pianist, AND drummer. But the sheer productivity, creative flow, and, most of all, Gary just being an absolute gentleman made it an inspiring and truly enjoyable experience. If you haven’t checked it out yet, go to Spotify or wherever

Don’t get me wrong—what we play and practice ultimately has to sound and feel good 🎶. I’m not a fan of overemphasizing concepts or systems to the point where they overshadow the end result: music. But sometimes, a simple conceptual experiment can surprise you with a pleasant listening experience 🎧. If it passes that test, why not run with it? In this case, alternating strokes between the ride cymbal 🥁 and snare creates interesting rhythms with a nice flow. What do you think? Do you have any s

A little clip from my performance of the brass band tune “Detective” for the campers. Two things I want to share about this: 1️⃣ It’s so much fun to play songs just slightly differently every time. The backbeat stays, the groove stays, the feel stays — but you can always add a different spice or flavor that fits the moment. Learning how to improvise within a frame is a powerful skill. It’s not about abandoning the structure — it’s about exploring inside it. Challenging and rewarding. Not despi

Had a blast playing those three shows with @cosmokleinofficial and these incredible musicians! The legendary @jazzclubatrane never disappoints, and I can’t wait to be back here with peter weniger next month! (and if you allow the gear talk🤭):I’m in heaven with the new @meinlcymbals quicksand hats and the quicksand ride as well as experimenting with a @remopercussion power stroke three on my @sonordrumco brass signature snare. I think it works super well for the funky stuff. I wish you a great d

Wow! One of my favorite endings to any song ever written. From one of the most extraordinary musical experiences of my life. I still have to pinch myself when I think about standing on that stage, feeling the sheer power of this legendary big band night after night. The sound, the energy, the history in every note. To be invited for the second year in a row by Cathy Rich herself—an honor beyond measure. To play some of the greatest big band arrangements ever written—something my teenage self cou

it’s a joy when the room sounds good. (But also distracting from setting up because I always wanna play 😂 ) this camp has been really special and I’m very grateful for the participants being brave, patient, determined and justplaying full out. Such a privilege to be a part of their journey. I love doing drumcamps! 😊 I wish you a great day. all the best @limusic_studio @fortiswatches @sonordrumco #drums #drumming #groove #beat | Benny Greb

Still buzzing from our India tour with the brass band. Here’s a little marching-inspired intro to one of the songs. It’s always fun to explore the different sounds that come out of a snare drum—staying with just one instrument, but diving into all the colors it has to offer. Wish you a great day. @meinlcymbals @vicfirth @teamworkarts @contribe | Benny Greb

🎉Without a doubt, these are my new favorite hi-hats!!! 🎉 the Next Member of the Family Introducing the 14“ Quicksand Hats. - Higher in register - Incredibly articulate and clear - Super responsive, razor-sharp, but never harsh 70s/80s studio sound You’ve probably already heard them. I’ve been playing these incognito for the past few months—undercover prototypes. You can hear them in the Brass Band videos I released with Sonor or even in a couple of my recent Instagram posts. Now, I’m beyond ex

🎶 *A little glimpse from a recent session to showcase my Artist‘s Choice Cymbal Set from @meinlcymbals There’s something incredibly special about these cymbals. Having spent years developing them and playing them for almost two decades, they’ve truly become part of my sound. It’s always such a joy to explore their full range in a place I love—the amazing @audio_lodge studio of my good friend and longtime engineer Sven Pix. This session was simple: “Just play something.” And honestly, if everyth

This drum camp was truly unforgettable, and a big part of that was thanks to the incredible @peter.weniger His presence brought so much inspiration, as he delivered one of the most insightful and impactful talks on improvisation I’ve ever experienced. He broke down the principles and mindset with such clarity, played alongside the participants, and demonstrated his points with absolute mastery. The focus was on improvisation and soloing, and it was amazing to see drummers of all levels and style

although there is some melodic stuff going on here… this clip reminds me that I’ve always been fascinated—not just by double bass grooves—but by the idea of using the bass drum as an equal voice in fills.💪 Not just as a pulse running underneath, but as a way to continue a phrase that started on the toms and flows seamlessly into the feet. It’s still one of my favorite effects to this day, and something that keeps inspiring me. Double bass grooves are great, but they tend to live in specific gen

Soon heading off to the next drum camp — this time with the legendary Peter Erskine. While preparing and packing, I can’t help but think of all the amazing guests we’ve had so far. So grateful for this job… to spend time with my heroes — and share those experiences with drummers who are just as excited about it as I am. In case you haven’t seen it yet: Check out the full version of the improvisation I did with Steve Smith on my YouTube channel. (Just search my name — you’ll find it.) 👉 And by t

Definitely one of the highlights this year was performing with my brass band at the Sarajevo Jazz Festival. This is a clip from the outro of September, a moment that sometimes inspires me to use a bit of musical independence: the hi-hat opening and closing, the left hand being in charge of the backbeat, and an additional percussive, improvisational voice on top. It somehow reminds me of what many of us — especially parents — do during Christmas time: cleaning, cooking, organizing, hosting, and h
