The crew on board Artemis II is on their way to the far side of the moon after spending 25 hours in Earth's orbit. CBS News' Jarred Hill reports.

The crew of Nasa's Artemis II mission has just made a critical move to push out of our planet's orbit towards the Moon. That's called a "translunar injection burn" and lasted for some six minutes. It's first time that humans have left Earth's orbit since 1972,

The Artemis II cleared some key hurdles during its first day in space. CBS News' Kris Van Cleave reports, and retired NASA astronaut Dorothy Metcalf-Lindenburger joins with more insight.

NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen – participated in a live press conference Thursday night, after the trans-lunar injection launch to propel them from Earth orbit to the Moon.

Astronauts on Artemis II have entered the third day of their mission around the far side of the Moon and back again.

The engine firing provided a slingshot-like boost to the Orion capsule, speeding it to 24,500 mph, the velocity needed to break free of Earth's gravitational clasp for a trek to the moon.
